Letroy Guion Reportedly Gets One-Year, $2.75 Million from Packers

The Packers appear to be addressing two offseason concerns; agreeing to terms with Letroy Guion and offering a contact to B.J. Raji

The exact details of Guion's contract have not been released, but his contract will most likely be filled with many incentives.

This is one for the "Tightwad Ted" crowd.

He does tend to overpay his own from time to time.

Espn reporting 1.3million. Maybe thats base, and up to this figure with incentives. If thats the case, solid deal.

If that is true, I would agree. I never have a problem with performance incentives that can inflate a player's pay if they earn it.

But $2.75 mil straight pay for a guy that is marginal, at best, and staring at a league suspension is just way too much.

Typical tightwad Ted. Gets a man-crush on a marginal player and overpays, like Jarrett Bush and Brad Jones, and lets proven players walk.

You mean he overpays a bit for guys under 30, and lets guys over 30 walk if the $$$ are too high? I can live with that.

Brad Jones was a mystery. It seemed like his arrow was pointing up and then he fell off a cliff. How do you peak and get so bad so quickly?

Jones was a gradually rising OL and forced to move inside and had some decent early games there... recalls, vaguely.

I think you'll see some contract fugues reported the next few days that will seem high. Probably given by the agents. My guess is both deals will be heavy on the game day roster bonuses with some other incentives thrown into the contract. Very little guaranteed. The top # will look big for what people are expecting but the structure will heavily favor the Packers. It's the compromise TT makes. Players expecting a certain amount, don't get it on the market, and TT gives them close to that amount in a very safe team friendly deal. Players feel like they will earn the top number and Packers are protected somewhat from injury and general suckness by being able to move on with little consequence.

I'm okay with this if $1.3 million is the base and the rest is incentives, with little guaranteed. I am guessing that one of Raji, Guion or Pennel does not make the 53. If TT drafts an NT at #30, I would guess that two of those guys don't make the team.
