On Monday, a day the Packers were off from practice, fullback John Kuhn read to more than 80 children at the Gillett (Wis.) public library to kick off the "Leap Into Reading" program sponsored by the Green Bay Packers.

According to press release from the Packers:

“Leap into Reading” is presented by the Packers, Edvest College Savings Plan and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, and encourages children to read during the summer, while giving parents and grandparents a chance to win one of 20 Edvest college savings accounts valued at $1,000 each, along with prizes from the Green Bay Packers.

More than 200 Wisconsin public libraries, including the Gillett Public Library, will offer the “Leap into Reading” promotion. The program promotes participation in summer reading programs at Wisconsin libraries in an effort to prevent “summer reading loss,” a cumulative condition that can put students two years behind their classmates by the end of sixth grade.

Children who participate in the program will have a chance to win:

• Twenty grand prizes of Edvest college savings accounts valued at $1,000 each (one winner in each library system and three at-large winners)
• Four tickets to Packers Family Night, presented by Bellin Health at Lambeau Field (for each grand prize winner)
• Each winning library will also receive $500

Children can be entered into the summer reading activities and events at local libraries. Contest registration is available online at www.edvest.com/reading or at local libraries.
