It's Not About Money

Silly as it sounds, I thought Collins might actually be making an effort to help out the Green Bay Packers. It turns out he is just a little light in the wallet. About a hundred grand to be exact.

According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette:

"Collins could lose more than $100,000 in fines and bonus recovery by not taking part."

If Nick Collins had not reported to OTA practice yesterday, he would not have the time to pass his physical and medical tests before the mandatory mini-camp next week. No mini-camp, no one hundred grand. So much for doing the right thing for the right reason.

I'll bet the farm that Collins gets an "injury" shortly after practice begins. Nice try Nick, no one is buying it.

The more Collins complains, the more Smith and Rouse get playing time.

That doesn't bother me a bit.

Actually, he is helping the Packers by showing up this week. Absolutely nothing is mandatory this week - he can walk up to 1265 at the last minute next week and as long as he is there for the mandatory Mini-camp practices, he is fine.

His showing up this week ensures that the medical stuff will be out of the way and that he SHOULD be on the field starting Monday morning. Now, he could always pull a Mike McKenzie and fake an injury so he doesn't have to participate. But even Collins isn't that stupid...is he?

I would have to assume that if he didn't get his medical out of the way he would lose some kind of money by not being fit to participate. Seeing that he couldn't do that on the first day, it makes me suspicious.

I was wrong to defend Collins.. although I think the media was still wrong to dismiss his personal situation as well.

It has become very apparent that Collins is out for the payday first.. benefit of the doubt was erased a few weeks ago.. this just hammers it home.

I'll wait to be upset until he starts missing things that are mandatory. Until then - everything he does (or doesn't do) are just "messages" being sent to management.

every fan is going to be doggin him if his performance falls off this year, as they should. I don't understand how he could miss so many practices with the team learning a new defense.
