Humphrey Back In the Fold

This is welcome news. I was a vocal Humphrey fan last season and I was more than a little upset when the team let him walk earlier this year. His re-signing (thanks DDD) is one of those transactions that casual fans give little consideration  to but that pay big dividends down the road. Last season Humphrey finally showed why Thompson has stuck with him in spite of his many injuries. I was a big fan of his blocking, especially when McCarthy motions him into the backfield, but I was shocked at how well he gets down field in the seam of a zone. I hope he gets a chance to play a bit more this season because I actually think he's a better all around player than Donald Lee. Of course, Finley is the wild card and could surprise, and I would not mind Thompson finding another prospect later in the draft, but right now I feel very, very comfortable with the tight end position.

Nothing against his resigning, at his price it could be a real bargain. I think he looked pretty good in his limited appeaarences. It tells me another thing too, TT wasted his money giving the rest of the FA's tender offers.

It's a good idea to keep a good blocking tight end in house. I see Finley causing matchup problems in the future, but there are a lot of times when a blocking tight end is indispensable. As you said, McCarthy in particular seems to use the blocking tight end quite often.

We are talking about $500k here?? Its a crappy offseason right now, and I'm fine with TT not signing anybody. It is just really slow as far as packers news. I cannot wait for the draft!!

Tip - how many free agents did the Steelers sign last offseason? Or maybe you can illuminate which free agent signing in the past two months has instantly created a Super Bowl contender? I'm all ears...

Or that we won't get a FA after the draft, a pickup after mini camps, etc. TT will have his budget more under control. I agree - who would you have taken? Seems like people just get antsy when nothing is happening - except the hashing/rehashin/rerehashing about Jay Cutler.

IMO the biggest change - better than a FA - is that the defense won't be in I Don't Care mode this year. We'll have a hard time with the transisiton, but I have big faith in how the defense's fired-up-ness has got to get better. Can you imagine playing for Sanders and actually giving a hoot?
