Free Agent DL Letroy Guion Reportedly Visits Seahawks

The free agent defensive lineman is free to sign with any team after his contract with the Packers expired.

It didn't take long for Letroy Guion to garner interest from another NFL team once criminal charges from a recent arrest were dropped earlier this week.

Guion visited the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network:

As an unrestricted free agent, Guion is free to sign with any team he wants after his one-year contract with Packers expired.

In 2014, Guion provided stability at the nose tackle position to a Packers defensive line that lost B.J. Raji for the season to injured reserve.

Guion made a career-high 32 tackles and 3.5 sacks this past season while starting all 16 games for the first time in his professional career.

Even though charges have been dropped against Guion, he can still be suspended under the NFL's conduct policy, which qualifies as a big unknown variable to the defensive lineman's future.

It will be interesting to see whether any team is willing to offer him a contract before they know if and how long Guion will be suspended by the league.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has consistently said he'd like to have Guion back in Green Bay dating back to the NFL Combine in February.

Guion's civil forfeiture case in Florida is still pending, although it's unlikely to impact any discipline he receives from the NFL.

With fellow defensive lineman B.J. Raji also unsigned, the Packers defensive line situation remains unsettled.

I hope this is a trip to reassure what he is worth so he can sign with the pack. He was worth every penny last year and he screwed up. It would be great to have him back but i'm thinking weed is legal over there, maybe a bonus?

Packers say they want Raji and Guion and both players want to stay in Green Bay. So, what is TT waiting on? He can't everyone to give a hometown discount.

I'm starting to really wonder myself. How much help is Thompson hoping for from the draft? He already needs ILB, CB, TE, and if he waits much longer he'll need several D Linemen. Almost $22 million under the the cap and he's done nothing to shore up the middle of the defense. Each day I look to see if he's brought any of his OWN guys back on defense. Nothing...

It's been a while since a Seattle player drew a suspension from the league. Signing Guion is a cheap way to get back on that scoreboard but more power to the Seahawks if they want him.

I think Thompson was excellent at restoring the dignity and strength of the general manager's office and the packers, in general. He's helmed a fiscally sound, albeit conservative, ship that will likely be a contender for years to come.

Contender.

But, I've always felt that he doesn't have it to take this team to the top. At some point conservatism needs to give way to some amount of daring. And, we might need to spend money and take some chances.

So far, TT seems locked into the rebuilding / youth development mode that got us a sound base for success, but has not made the moves than can actually bring the fruits of that success.

Joe Packer,

TT has brought the Packers to the top which did bring the fruit of success. There was a trophy and confetti and a parade and everything. You must mean he can't do it again, right?

He has made some 'daring' acquisitions (Woodson, Peppers). You must mean he doesn't do it as often others like Jerry Jones and Danny Snyder, right?

And don't forget John Elway going "all in" with Denver.
It is impossible to GUARANTEE a SB trophy. Some fans seem to think it's possible, and those are the ones who are mistaken.

Aaron Rodgers contract is a significant limiting factor to what the Pack can do in free agency.

I don't remember the exact stat , but all Super Bowl winning teams since modern free agency (early 1990's) have no single player contract take up more than 10-12% of the teams salary cap.

If AR is around 15-16% of the cap it just leaves a few holes on the roster and a few free agents the team can't afford to sign.

I'm not saying that he doesn't deserve to be the highest paid player in the league, but it makes it harder (but not impossible) to gather and keep enough talent around him.

TT loves his late round round draft picks even after 2 or 3 seasons & they are no longer in the NFL.

Some of you fans need to start giving credit where it's due. --- AR carries this team to 12-4 and the playoffs. ---- TT & MM are just along for the ride. --- Both would have been shown the door long before now if AR didn't exist.

TT realizes stats are for the last Game. Even though they fit a coaches system, more players are showing a exaggerated swagger. They lose their speed, shoulder chip, physical presence, and fail to earn their money. The NFL is like the stock market now. Buy low, sell high!

I am sure they both have had offers from TT. They think they can do better. TT says, prove it. If they can't, they come back at Ted's price. If they can do better, TT usually lets them walk or works it out if the other offers are close. This movie has been played over and over again.

I don't know what his plan is, but I hope it's not cross your fingers and hope that you get lucky with a bunch of 6th and 7th rounders in the draft to fill the holes. I still remember TT's back-up QB plan in 2013; in lieu of a quality back-up let's just cross our fingers and hope that AR doesn't get hurt and we have to play Seneca Wallace.

I still trust Ted, but with reservations.

Do you think Thompson would rather not have Raji an Guion back on the DL over 6th and 7th rounders? I don't. I think they would love to have them both back. But, you just can't pay role players anything more then role player type money regardless of your 'need' at a certain position. If you do, you eventually can't resign guys like Cobb and Bulaga who are more then just role players.
