Despite Reports, Jones Claims He Received Tender

James Jones tells a local television station that, despite reports to the contrary, he did in fact receive a tender offer from the Packers last week.

Despite reports to the contrary last week, this afternoon James Jones told WBAY, the ABC affiliate in Green Bay, that he did in fact recieve a tender offer from the Packers.

Pat Mayo, a sports producer for WBAY in Green Bay, posted the following on his Twitter account this afternoon:

According to James Jones, he was in fact tendered

I asked Mayo if Jones received his tender via FedEx like the others and Pat wrote that Jones said he got it "in the mail".

Jones did not say what level tender he was given.

I can't for the life of me figure out why Packers fans are suddenly drawn to Baldwin.

I want no part of him.

He doesn't run good routes.

He has all kinds of red flags, including taking plays off.

The nail in the proverbial coffin was his comments to NFLDraftScout about leaving college because he felt that coaches were trying to sabotage his draft stock.

I agree with you Jeff. I'm more of a fan of Hankerson and Randall Cobb. Plus he sounds to be a Moss/TO guy if he takes plays off.

No way. JJ is a talented receiver. Many receivers go through the drops. JJ is still young and if he can figure it out he'll be a stud. It's only a matter of time (maybe past time already) that DD gets replaced. JJ is the same type of player DD was 8 years ago. (But he's not the same type of guy, which does stand for something)

Don't have a problem with tendering JJ but it may not mean a thing ......

Not to change the subject but ya gotta meet a future Packer ..... Brooks Reed at OLB from U of Arizona ...... K. Greene likes him .......

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32KAqii4lrk

42 & 52 on the same team blitzing from both corners ...... Doesn't seem fair .....

If Brooks Reed can't pry away #42 from Morgan Burnett, #51 & #56 will be available.

I Like the idea of having JJ Back, He is on the same page with Rodgers , He know the schemes And although He had a lot of important drops this season, He made some tough And important catches specially against the falcons go PACK go

News of Jones tender was delayed because when the delivery man handed James the envelope...

he dropped it.

There seems to be a bit of a jump in logic here. Just because Jones received a tender offer does not mean he signed it. Therefore, it is possible for Jones to have received the tender offer, rejected/not signed it in time, and therefore not reported by the major media sources.

None of the guys who received offers signed them.

Okay, but then none of them are actually tendered. That doesn't show that the article is right in saying that Jones is tendered, does it?

What do you mean Aaron, they didn't sign their tenders? Could you clarify the rules on that? Thanks.

A tender offer is just that - an offer. The players have no obligation to accept (ie sign) them. It's the players way of trying to maintain a modicum of control, even though they have little real leverage (their rights still belong to the team)

In this instance, however, most of this will be moot once a new CBA is in place. These tenders are just the Packers covering their bases in case, by some miracle, the new CBA keeps the 2010 rules for restricted free agents in place.

Why are the Packers so secretive regarding these issues? We are interested in this. Once the players have been notified just issue a press release re who's been tendered.

I like James Jones, sure his drops always seem to be at critical points in the game but all the WRs here drop the damn ball. Hopefully Edgar Bennett can get them to stop. Having said that, I doubt he re-signs though.

Its unreal how much Reed and Clay Matthews look alike. That would be awesome to pair those guys up with Hawk and Bishop patrolling the middle. Championship!

Remember all the drops Terrell Owens had early in his career? I would like to see Jones back for at least another year. I think he would like a chance to have a consistant year and earn a long term deal ffom the Packers or another team.

Maybe I'm the only one who asks this, but ... what's a tender and why is it important?

Just wondering. Sounds cool though! Like, did Jones get a really great New York Strip? And why would he want to sign it? Interesting choice. Let's hope he doesn't drop it and then force the Packers to invoke the five-second rule. T'would be a shame.

Thanks, A-Nag!

Check that - just saw an explanation. Thanks, A-Nag. Er, Nagrod? No—BlackRod. Anyway, cheers.
