CHTV Heads To The Combine

Starting tomorrow, Brian and Aaron will be in attendance once again for the NFL's annual Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

It's that time of year again. Time for Brian and I to make our pilgrimage to the great city of Indianapolis to take in the NFL's annual much ballyhooed job market for the 200-or-so invited college prospects. Along with the hopefuls looking to impress NFL teams, almost every member of every NFL staff is in attendance, from head coaches to scouts to medical staff. Throw in roughly 500 player agents, who have their annual meeting on Friday, and you can see why it is simply the one must-attend event on the NFL calendar. Simply everyone is there.

Brian and I have a pretty good routine worked out at this point - namely, he deals with the college players and I deal with NFL folks. Well, alright, its not exactly that cut and dried, but I really have no idea who most of these dudes are, while Brian is familiar with almost all of them. Once they become NFL players, I start paying attention.

For me, the Combine is really not so much about what the NFL presents for consumption - be it the exhaustive coverage on NFL Network of all the different drills or the press conferences with nearly all the NFL head coaches. No, for me it's much more about what goes on around town during the proceedings. One of my favorite "meetings" during the Combine was when I wandered into some random place to grab a burger - and wound up chatting with Russ Grimm for 30 minutes or so about anything and everything football. That's the type of thing that happens at the Combine, and it's a big reason I make sure I attend every year. Football people talking football. You obviously can make some invaluable contacts in this environment, though maybe not the way you used to. (Old-time scribes love nothing more than telling you how great the Combine USED to be...) But to me, that's not the point. It's much more about being in an all-football environment. You're not there for some magazine's party. You're not there for the dog and pony show. You're there because football is a big part of your life - maybe the biggest part in some cases. I love that.

So be on the lookout all through this week as Brian and I update you on all the latest goings-ons from Indy. I arrive tomorrow morning and leave Saturday afternoon. Brian will be there a bit longer. Friday is the day Packers fans will want to circle on their calendars, as that is the day both Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy speak to the media. If you have anything you'd like me to ask them, please let me know in the Comments section. Likewise, if you have any particular prospect you'd like Brian to get a bit more information on, let us know that as well.

Also, as the draft season starts to kick into high-gear, be sure to pre-order our Draft Guide here at Cheesehead TV. Brian, Corey. Alex and company are hard at work putting together a bigger, better version of what was our extremely successful inaugural installment.

It will, in a word, rock.

One of you (or both) need to challenge Rich Eisen to a race in the 40 yard dash. No running shoes, business attire only.

What type of odds are we looking at? Any good prop bets associated with this?
