CB Jumal Rolle Added to Packers Practice Squad

Wide receiver Alex Gillett was released to make room for Rolle.

The Green Bay Packers added cornerback Jumal Rolle to the team's practice squad on Monday after being released on the team's cutdown to 53 players over the weekend.

In a press release, the Packers didn't explain why Rolle wasn't just added to the practice squad on Sunday.

Perhaps the Packers were waiting for Goodson to clear the NFL's concussion protocol so they wouldn't have to release him with an injury settlement.

With Goodson still reportedly not cleared, the Packers may have grown impatient and decided to add Rolle to the practice squad.

Although Gillett had an impressive training camp, the Packers appear to have sufficient depth with fellow wide receivers Kevin Dorsey and Myles White on the practice squad as well.

The Packers are practicing on Monday in advance of their upcoming season opener at Seattle on Thursday.

Good news as far as I am concerned. We had one problem this year, to much talent.

You'll really see some talent on Thursday. Does the word wipeout come to mind?

Yeah your right cow, we could fix that if you played that position.

I like the move though Dorsey should have been cut and Gillett kept.....needed depth for the DBs in case of....

Dorsey has value for ST. He played on most no.1 units in camp.

Since a 5th or 6th WR MUST be good on ST, I can understand keeping Dorsey on the PS. I didn't hear about Gillet on any no.1 ST unit.

"Perhaps the Packers were waiting for Goodson to clear the NFL's concussion protocol so they wouldn't have to release him with an injury settlement."

Let's say Goodson would have passed the concussion protocol. Would the Packers then have just flat-out released him, and NOT owed him some type of settlement? And if that is the case, it would open up a spot on the 53. Who presumably takes that spot? Were they going to put Rolle on the 53 instead of Goodson? I like Rolle over Goodson.

Sorry, I'm not up to date on procedural roster-type stuff.

Now if Hubbard is not seriously hurt for some more depth I'm liking our team that much more . Won't be last year, that's for sure.

I could be wrong, But I don't think the Packers have to give injury reports on practice squad players, So it is unlikely we will ever find out how badly injured he is.

If he were seriously hurt, I don't think he could have been waived without an injury settlement in the first place . Look at what they are doing with Goodson, and he only has a concussion.

Thanks man. I've been here, reading, just unable to comment on mobile until a few days ago since they switched the site around, I never get on my PC.

And sorry, I do not. I'm in Oregon now, didn't want to drive that far or pay that much!

Are the GBP really that tight to use a roster spot to avooid the risk of losing a prospect just to save the cost of an injury settlement?

While I know that athletes always say that they always compete. I can't help but wonder if there aren't more Jamarcus Russell's that know they won't make it, so they fiegn some kind of injury, esp. a concussion which can't readily be identified medically. I don't like conspiracies, but, you have to wonder.

It's less about the money than it is about the rule that stipulates you can't sign a player with an injury settlement until six weeks later.

I hope Alex Gillett catches on with another team's PS. I liked the progress he made this past year the guy worked really, really hard. That TD catch was a thing of beauty.

I don't think the packers got impatient. I think they wanted Rolle to be able to practice with the team, so they signed him to the PS. I suspect that when Goodson is waived, Rolle will be added to the 53 man squad, which means he might be able to play against Seattle or the Jets. Others have suggested that Banjo is headed to the 53 man roster. Maybe so, but right now with Goodson unable to play, GB only has 5 CBs, one of whom is Bush, who I don't particularly want to see playing cornerback against Seattle. So my guess is it will be Rolle.

Zola suggested above that Goodson might be faking his injury. Bottom line is I have no way of knowing, but I think Goodson has a future in the NFL and faking an injury could damage his reputation. Here is a link to an article by an agent who client was alleged to be faking his injury:
