General Info:

Football was in Beau Brade’s blood, his father played football at Virginia Tech. He grew up in Maryland, so of course he chose to go to Maryland over offers from Michigan, North Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and others. He was just a three-star prospect coming out of high school. Brade spent most of his freshman year playing special teams, finishing that season with a total of 24 snaps on defense. In his second season he received a bigger role but, still pretty small due to all the depth ahead of him. The former Terp played in 12 games and collected 14 tackles, 1.5 TFLs, and one sack. The Maryland native became a starter in 2022 and lead the team in tackles with 85, Brade also collected 4 TFLs, 2 INTs, 5 PBUs and two FFs. Brade decided to return for a final season in 2023 and lead the team in tackles again. He was voted a team captain and finished the season with 75 tackles, 4 TFLs, 1 INT, 1 FF and 6 PBUs. He attended both the Senior Bowl and the Combine although he did not do any testing at the combine.

Positional Skills:

Strengths

He is versatile, in two years as a starter he has 707 snaps at free safety, 169 in the slot and 603 in the box. He plays with an aggressive, physical demeanor; despite his average size he can deliver a pop as a tackler. Brade takes good angles to ball carriers. When he tackles, it’s usually for no gain or a loss. The Maryland native shows good range on film. He shows ability to quickly react on film and change direction. He shows explosiveness on the field, especially when he clicks and closes. He has shown on film the ability to find lanes in order to attack ball carriers. On film he shows short area explosiveness and solid range. When he wants to he can find the ball and make a play on it. The former Terrapin has shown to be sticky in coverage against tight ends. He has also shown good timing on knocking away deep balls (fades, posts, corners, etc…). Brade has shown flashes on film of being able to jump routes and read the offense.

Weaknesses

He has a tendency to play the man when in coverage instead of the ball, that is one of the reasons for his low ball production. Brade can be fooled by double moves in coverage. He’s not the type of defensive back you want covering little slot receivers, he lacks the patience and his route recognition skills still need work. He will occasionally take a false step or get caught flat footed, it hasn’t hurt him much in college, but will need to be cleaned up in the NFL. His long speed is pretty average. Brade can be a little out of control sometimes and over-pursue.

Fit with the Packers:

Brade would be a good fit for Green Bay because of his solid play and versatility, he can play a number of roles for the defense. Don’t expect him to be a big time ball magnet, due to his low ball production and the physical nature to his game. He is a solid all-around player who can play in the box and over the top, and he can even cover some tight ends. Brade would probably play the box role due to his play style and skill set. With some work, especially on playing the ball more and some other technical aspects, he could develop into a starter. The former three-star recruit would be a good pick early on day three.

Brade will probably fall to the 4th round, maybe 5th. He is an option in that area like Mustapha, Oladapo, Hicks, Demerson, Carlies, Proctor, and Logan will be.

What do you think about Tyler Owens-TT? Tremendous athlete and a big Safety prospect @ 6'2 215lbs. His RAS would have been through the roof, but he got hurt at the combine, where he was supposed to run low 4.3s. He got some attention for making goofy anti-science comments, but he would be at the least, higher quality depth material @ Safety, if not a possible starter.

I read recently where the Rams in 2022 offered 2 first round picks and another pick to the Panthers for Brian Burns. In their wisdom, the Panthers stupidly turned them down. Aaron Donald retired a few days ago, and now the Rams have a big need @ DT. Not that we would trade him, but would Kenny Clark be worth that kind of draft compensation. Or maybe a 1st round pick and a starting LB or OL.

I don't think we would trade him, but GB is trying to decide between a new contract or extending him because he is still really good, but expensive. And he is 28 years old. The Rams need to replace Donald and have been known to overpay to fill a need, like they did with Stafford. What do you think?

If the Rams want to offer a king’s ransom I’d at least listen.
Hell, even a queen’s would be worth an ear. (Not literally. Stone Cold, anyone?)

Yeah TK, I am just curious because Clark will probably get a new, very expensive contract very soon. And I think we still owe him $15 million in dead money next year. We either sign him to a new contract or trade him while his value is sky high.

Trading him would create a huge hole, but it could be filled in this draft with Braden Fiske or Byron Murphy. The DT group is deeper and better in the 2025 draft too. The offer would have to be huge as well but look what the Rams offered for Burns. With Donald gone, they might be desperate.

I probably would be less inclined to trade Clark because the Packers are starting to realize we aren't waiting for 2025 to be a strong contender. Who knows what might happen?

WOW, which part of that post did you guys all hate?

A -The mid round Safeties I listed?

B-The question about Tyler Owens?

C-Or the hypothetical trade of Kenny Clark?

D- All of the above?

I am curious. You are a tough crowd.

Brade likes to hit, so he differs from Savage in that aspect. But he has questionable instincts and they've been there, done that. Better choices out there.

He's a strong safety type guy. He can play the short zones. An upgrade over Owens. Every defense needs these bad ass guys.

Another safety in the top 100.
Best safety class in years.

They have to take two of these guys. Maybe three if one can be a slot guy. Johnson is the only guy he retained, so far.

We have Benny Sapp back too. I would not dismiss him completely. He did flash some skills.

Don't know much about Brede, but have seen Hicks play several times and came away impressed. If another starting caliber safety is not added by draft day, I would definitely consider Nubin at 41 if Cooper is gone. Hicks in the 3rd or Bishop in the 4th.

I know some of it can be attributed to Hicks looking for the big hit but his missed tackle rate is 21.8%. That's terrible and not likely to get better in the NFL.

GB wisely accumulated 11 picks, and thus the best way to reduce the crap shoot of the draft is to have multiple picks at positions of needs. There are many premium draft picks that went bust, meanwhile late round picks exceled. So after doing homework, the next best thing is draft multiple prospects at the position.....probably 2. Then its up to coaching and individual to whether they rise up to the task. Beau Brade seems about as likely to excel as anyone else. And ditto for anyone else. Draft at least 2. One in 2nd round, and Beau in the 4th....or so. This GM thing is pretty easy. I wish for an opening.

I think we can do better with 5 picks in the top 91. The candidate would have to be better than Rudy Ford.
