Andrew Quarless Reportedly To Miss At Least A Month With Knee Injury

ESPN reports the veteran tight end will miss extended time with a knee injury.

Demovsky has the goods:

Tight end Andrew Quarless is expected to miss at least a month, if not six weeks, because of the knee injury he sustained in Monday night's win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Tests on Tuesday showed he sprained his MCL, according to a source, when he got hit on his left knee by Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters in the second quarter.

This will leave the Packers awfully thin at the tight end position.

Obviously Richard Rodgers is your entrenched starter. Green Bay has and can use their fullbacks as tight ends in certain situations, and they do have rookie Kennard Backman, who was active for the first time this year last night against the Chiefs.

It will be interesting to see what kind of moves they make in light of this injury and with Letroy Guion coming off suspension. I tend to think we'll see Justin Perillo activated off the practice squad, but we'll see.

Put Quarless on IR, sign Colt Lyerla and you have the final piece to the superbowl puzzle.

Paging Mr. Backman, Mr. Kennard Backman, please report to the line of scrimmage, you have a call...

I don't know how his blocking is coming along, but this young man has potential to be a deep seam threat.

There don't seem to be any good alternatives. TT should have kept Mitchell Henry instead of Backman - pure draft status/ego decision. Instead, Denver claimed Mitchell Henry off of waivers. I suppose Perillo is the best choice IF the decision is to replace Quarless, but I don't have obvious candidates to cut to make room for Perillo and Guion.

I'd just go with Rodgers and Backman.

I really like the improvements I saw from Backman in the preseason and really like his pass catching ability.

I think Backman can be a really nice compliment to Rodgers as the #2 TE.

Hopefully Backman will become the TE that we were hoping for in Bostick and previously in DJ Williams.

I hate to say it, but... "Who cares?"

There's a Quarless or two sitting at every Waffle House in Georgia.

Was thinking the same thing, but didn't wanted to post such. Still serving penance for a similar line of thinking relating to Boyd.

I don't care if GB just goes with two TE's on it's roster. They already have two FB's who can do some of the same dirty-work blocking wise. Both Rip and Kuhn are probably better blockers anyway. Hell, I'd send the Ripper out on same pass routes, just to surprise them. If another TE gets hurt, bring someone up the next game. This way they don't have to cut another player to bring someone up from the PS.

Agree, Mojo.

If it's blocking that they want, GB could just go "jumbo" and put in another tackle at TE. I was surprised how often they did that very thing against KC. Mostly Josh Walker. (I don't have the exact numbers, but I thought it must have been about 10 times).

Having said that, it didn't seem to be particularly effective if I recall. At least Walker didn't.

Walker had 6 snaps against KC. I didn't watch him.

Lets see Quarles is out, don't know about Datone, he got a boo boo so he will probably miss four weeks LOL. We could lose both these guys and never miss a beat. Toss Perry in the mix too.
I understand know why Janus doesn't play on offense, he ain't the brightest bulb on the tree. Lets hope we don't need him down the road.
