Aaron Rodgers Says He Wants to Play Nine More Years

The Green Bay Packers quarterback said again Thursday that he wants to play another nine years.

The Green Bay Packers are nine years removed from one of their greatest draft picks in franchise history, the first-round selection of quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the 2005 draft.

If Rodgers has his way, he'll give the franchise that drafted him nine more years.

Per Zach Heilprin of ESPN Milwaukee, Rodgers stuck to his guns Thursday night at the Wisconsin Sports Awards, confirming a recent tweet claiming he'd like to play another nine years.

Rodgers tweeted this on Wednesday, the nine-year anniversary of his entrance to the NFL, with the hastag #9in9togo:

Nine more years would give Rodgers a final season in 2022.

Through his first nine seasons, Rodgers has thrown 188 touchdown passes over 87 starts, with 58 wins and an NFL record passer rating of 104.9. He led the Packers to the franchise's fourth Super Bowl title in February of 2011, and won the league MVP award a year later.

If Rodgers continued his yearly averages since 2008—his first year as the starting quarterback—over the next nine years, he would finish with 59,999 career passing yards and 467 touchdowns. Rodgers has averaged 3,978 passing yards and 31 touchdowns over the last six seasons, but the totals do not factor in eight games he missed to injury and one due to rest since '08.

Brett Favre retired with NFL records in passing yards (71,838) and touchdowns (508).

Rodgers, who turns 31 in December, would be 39 by the end of the 2022 season.

When he originally signed his mega deal last April, Rodgers said he could see himself playing seven or eight more years. He is currently under contract through the 2020 season.

If Rodgers plays through the 2022 season, he would be eligible for the Hall of Fame starting in 2028.

30 consecutive years of elite quarterback play would be amazing. Let's hope there's another Super Bowl before its all said and done.
I hold such a high regard for Rodgers. Rodgers handled a messy transition well. Let's hope in 9 years that Rodgers exits stage left more gracefully.

He wants to model himself after Bart Starr. He knows he isn't bigger than the game. You won't see him throwing game losing ints at the end of a playoff game.

4thand1, I'm a fan of Bart Star. He's a Class Act, & up to this point, the Record shows he remains GB's Best QB. I don't believe Bart saw any Playoffs in his last 2 years in the league? I can't remember? He actually stayed 1 year too long, as most QB's do. I know he had a really bad elbow his last year. You don't know how AR is going to feel when it's over. Majakowski, (Who by the way, I thought was as Good as Bart, Brett, & AR), didn't want to step aside either. Ok, maybe he wasn't quite as good, but he brought GB back from being a doormat, without a very good team. I try to mention Don whenever I get the chance. I'm not as big of fan of BF as I once was, but I still don't blame him for the 2007 loss. That belongs to Al Harris & Mason Crosby, maybe some goes to MM for not giving BF a break during that Miserable game. The guy was Frozen Stiff. Anyway, I hope AR lasts another 9. LVT

YOU ARE SUCH A TOOL.

Who would have imagined that the 49ers would have been as good as they've been the last 3 years in 2008? Or the Seahawks? Or the Broncos?

A LOT can happen in the NFL in any given offseason. GB quite possibly will get another 2 or 3 Lombardis before ARod retires.

Easy Bear. He's right on this one.

If we've had a Elite QB for 30 yrs and only have 2 SB's to show for it, that would be a shame.

What a bummer that he's going to retire with 59,999 yards. Can't someone just stretch out one more yard over the next 9 years so the poor guy doesn't have to come back in 2023 to pick up the extra one. He'll probably retire and then unretire just to hit 60K.

But the Packers won't take him back so he will get over the 60,000 mark with the Bears in 2023.

By the way, can anybody get their hands on an extra ticket or two for the Sea Chickens game? Need my Packers fix.

Average ticket price for that game from a reseller is $575.00 per ticket. Ouch.

Yeah...I'm going to need a lot of help. I'm going to have to rely on the kindness of strangers. I need a miracle every day.

How can you project ARod's stats for the next 9 years? That makes no sense.

Just ask cow, that shit stain knows everything. That guy is so smart I would not doubt that he is elliot wolf shit talking ted thompson in disguise so he can secretly dethrone him and take over. Yeah I know sometimes the truth hurts but if you want to see it for what it is instead of what you want it to be just ask cow, or you could comment on here and cow will enlight you with his unbiased intelligence.

The last 20 plus years have been pretty dam good. Trouble is, to get impact players, you have to really suck for a year or two. The NFL is set for the bad to succeed and the successful to fail. Except for the LOLions, and Browns.

I want to see AR play as many years as he can at a high level, and then know when it is time to leave. I would hate to see him try to stick around after his feet, accuracy, and velocity have all faltered. I don't like watching great players fade out.

If the Packers are fortunate to win a couple of more titles under Rodgers, I see him walking away early. He's to smart to get beat up and end up with brain damage. Also he's really good in commercials. He will have a life after football.
